Study Abroad/International Exchange Programs
Willajeanne McLean
Director, International Exchange Programs
Long before the term "globalization" became a household word, the Law School recognized the importance of preparing its graduates to "think globally." The Law School has invested considerable resources to provide its students with a variety of opportunities to study international and comparative law.
On campus, students may choose from a rich palette of international courses. The subject matter of these courses is often augmented by interaction with the international students, who are in residence either as part of their schools' exchange agreements with the Law School or who are matriculated in the Law School's Masters' (LL.M.) programs in U. S. Law or Insurance. Furthermore, as a result of the Law School's alliances with leading foreign universities, international scholars from Albania, Argentina, Bulgaria, China , Czech Republic, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Israel, Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, The Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Taiwan and Ukraine have lectured at the school.
In addition, students may participate in various on-campus organizations such as the International Law Society, the Connecticut Journal of International Law or Amnesty International. There are also opportunities to attend lectures series, such as the Elihu Burritt lectures in International Law, colloquia, conferences and other fora, which may feature international legal scholars and practitioners.
A selected number of students may also choose to enrich their legal studies by spending a semester or year enrolled at one of the foreign law schools with which the Law School has formal and informal agreements. Students may apply for admission to programs located at Aix-en- Provence, Berlin, Dublin, Exeter, Leiden, London, Mannheim, San Juan, Siena, and Tilburg.
