Application and Fees

The Law School admits students once a year for the fall semester. Those eligible to be considered for admission must hold or expect to receive a bachelor's degree from an accredited undergraduate college and must take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT).

Applicants must take or have taken the LSAT no more than five years before the date of expected enrollment. Applicants should refer to the Law School Admissions Council website for details about the test.

The deadline to apply is March 1, 2008.

Day and Evening Divisions

Applicants may apply to the Day or Evening Division or to both. The cost of applying to a single division is $30; the cost to apply to both is $45.

Approximately one-third of the seats in the first year class are for the Evening Division. Those seeking to apply for every available seat in the class should apply to both divisions.

Transfers from one division to another are possible after the completion of the first full year of study. Students may attend the Day Division full or part-time. Neither day nor evening students are permitted to deviate from the required curriculum for that division during the first year; nor may they add or substitute a course from the other division.

All Evening Division students are part-time students and must take a June term. Full-time study for the J.D. consists of three years; part-time study takes four years.

Those students wishing to apply for admission to an LL.M. program should request the separate application materials from those programs.

Reminder Regarding Financial Aid

The 2007-08 application for financial aid is now available at http://www.law.uconn.edu/studfin/. You do not have to submit your financial aid information with your law school application. However, if you are applying for financial aid, you must complete all financial aid documents. The deadline for submitting financial aid applications and documents is March 1, 2008, regardless of whether you have received an admission decision.

Transfer and Visiting Students

Under limited circumstances and to the extent that space is available; the University of Connecticut School of Law may admit a small number of transfer or visiting applicants each year. In deciding whether to grant admission, the School will consider, among other factors, the circumstances which require the student's presence in the Hartford area, the student's outstanding record of accomplishment at his or her law school, and the extent to which space is available. In addition to grades received in first year courses, class rank is an important indicator of first year academic success, and is considered along with letters from law school faculty in making application decisions. Applicants to transfer or visit should complete the transfer and visiting student application forms on this website, using the specific directions for transfer and visiting students. The application deadline is July 1, 2009.

Transfer applicants who have completed no more than one full year at an ABA-accredited law school are considered for transfer admission. Students who have earned more than 32 law school credit hours are ineligible for transfer to the University of Connecticut School of Law. Competitive candidates are typically in the top 10-15% of their current law school class. Transfer applicants are considered for either the Day or Evening Division, or may apply for both Divisions. Please note that credit will only be transferred for grades of "C" or better, and that each course's transferability will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis. Transfer students must abide by the transcript evaluation, any enrollment conditions, and must complete all required courses.

Visiting applicants must receive written permission to visit from their law schools, and the school letters should set forth the reasons for and the specific terms and conditions of the proposed visit. Applicants to visit must demonstrate a special circumstance requiring the visit. Visitors are ineligible to apply to transfer to this Law School. Students may visit for a maximum of two semesters or 32 credits, whichever comes first, or fewer, if specified by the home law school. Any additional courses or credits beyond those specified in the visiting letter require additional written permission from the student's law school before the visitor can register or attend classes. The release of an official transcript to the visitor's law school will be given only to students in good standing at the University of Connecticut School of Law.
