Welcome from the Director
Dear First Year Student:
Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of Connecticut School of Law! I wanted to welcome you on behalf of the Career Services Office (CSO). CSO is one of the last offices to greet you1, but will remain a part of your experience starting now and continuing through your alumni years. Our goal in the CSO is to assist you in developing the knowledge and skills necessary for you to find a rewarding career. We believe that legal careers are not "one size fits all." We are here to guide you in developing and executing a career plan, not to place you with a particular employer. The CSO strongly encourages students to take advantage of the services we offer. Self-assessment, clinical opportunities, and professional networking are key in your search.
Some of the services we offer our students include:- Individual career counseling with our three attorney career counselors
- Career panels, workshops, and networking opportunities
- On and off-campus recruitment programs
- Mock interview programs
- Symplicity, the online home of Career Services, which includes job postings
- Judicial clerkship database through Symplicity
- Funding to attend public interest career fairs, apply to judicial clerkships
- Resource materials, including office publications and an extensive library
We wish you the best of luck as you commence your legal career. We will hold several orientation sessions and workshops for the first year class starting in late October. Attached is the 2008-2009 Calendar of Events which highlights the primary 1L CSO programs. We encourage you to use the first few weeks of school to transition to your new life as a law student. We look forward to working with each of you!
Best,
María Jimena Rivera, Esq.
