John Day, Professor in Residence. Professor Day teaches, Insurance Law, Health Care Policy and the Law, Life Insurance and Health Care Financing and the Regulation of Financial Services. He graduated from Oberlin College in 1958 and received his law degree from Case-Western Reserve in 1961. In 1999 he retired from CIGNA Corporation, where he was senior Vice President and Chief Counsel for insurance, healthcare benefits, pensions and investment law. Prior to joining CIGNA, he held number of positions in federal and state government, private practice and academia. These activities included Assistant to the Vice Chairman of the Federal Power Commission, Special Counsel to the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Deputy Superintendent of the New York Insurance Department, Insurance Commissioner for the Commonwealth of Virginia, and of counsel with Steptoe & Johnson in Washington D.C. He has taught on an adjunct basis at the law school, the University of Hartford’s Barney School of Business and as a Visiting Associate Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, Canada. His publications focus on insurance regulation, health care law, the evolution of managed care and transportation regulation.
