Community Mailing List
The Law School has established a distribution list, titled "community." Our hope it that student organizations and others who have been using the student list for semi-official purposes might shift their email communication to this new list. All students, including student organizations, are encouraged to use this new mailing list when sending mass emails/announcements to the law school community. Messages sent to this list will reach all subscribed students, faculty and staff.
Any currently enrolled students can subscribe themselves to the Community list. Faculty and staff are also encouraged to subscribe to the Community list and participate in the discussions.
The Community list uses a Mailing List Manager called Mailman. Documentation on how to use the Mailing List Manager can be found in the Mailman Users Guide.
Use of the current "student" distribution list should be limited to those occasions when it is clear that the communication is best aimed at the entire campus, even those who generally prefer not to receive unsolicited email.
Features of the Community mailing list
- Tagged subject lines
- Each message distributed through the Community mailing list will contain the phrase [Community] in the subject line, allowing you to easily scan for these messages and read them at your leisure.
- Receive messages individually, as a daily digest, or read them on the web
- With your subscription to the mailing list, you can choose how to read the messages:
- Individual messages: By default, you will receive individual messages as they are sent by Community members.
- Daily digest: You can choose to receive Community messages as a single message once a day. See Set Digest Mode in the Mailman Users Guide for more information.
- Via the web: You can also choose to read the Community messages via the web. You must be a subscriber to the list to read the archives, but you can Disable mail delivery for your subscription and read messages via the web archives.
- Restricted posting
- Only members of the Community mailing list (students, faculty, and staff of the Law School) are able to send messages to the mailing list, eliminating unsolicited e-mail messages (also known as 'spam') from external sources.
