Non-UConn Students
Students enrolled in accredited educational institutions other than the University of Connecticut are considered non-UConn students.
In exceptional circumstances, matriculated non-University of Connecticut students may be hired on a temporary basis for one semester at a time during the school year or one summer term at a time during the summer months only in the event that no qualified University of Connecticut student applies for the job.
The Law School may only hire non-UConn students after a student job has been advertised in the Storrs Student Employment Office for two weeks and after the Student Employment Program staff at the School of Law are confident that no qualified UConn student is available.
To APPLY for employment at the School of Law, non-UConn students must provide the Student Employment Program staff with proof of student status, in addition to submitting a résumé and/or application for student employment form. Documents which are accepted as proof of student status include:
- A written statement from the respective registrar or student advisor, on formal letterhead, attesting to the student's current enrollment and anticipated graduation date
- A copy of a paid fee bill for the current semester
- A copy of the spring semester paid fee bill and fall registration receipt or paid fee bill, with a letter from respective registrar indicating that the student is in good standing and is anticipated to return in the coming academic year (this documentation is used for full-time, matriculated students who are applying for summer jobs and who will not be taking summer classes).
Forms
Non-UConn students must complete two specialized forms as part of the employment authorization process, in addition to those forms required for all potential student workers.
- Request to Hire a Non-UConn Student [.DOC format]
- Non-UConn Student Acknowledgment Form [.PDF format]
Non-University of Connecticut students must allow a minimum of two weeks between the date that their completed employment documentation is complete and the date when they hope to receive authorization to start working. The School of Law Student Employment Program Office staff will notify each student and respective supervisor, via electronic mail, of the actual start date as soon as it has been established. No student may begin working in an on-campus job until this written confirmation has been received.
